Smolenks "Smola 2012"

Hey guys!

I just want to share with you some photos and expressions from the Smolensk. I am satisfied with the trip, but the weather was awful half of the time :/ Rain, rain, rain! I was pretty annoyed by it.

Green Olympics In London but how to get there?

London 2012 is proving to be the great organised city the world was expecting it to be when it was picked as the hosting city of the Olympics 2012. The bbc website presents great reviews of the city's commitment to make the games as green and sustainable as possible. What Ivana pointed out in her last post is a great example of how very well London is doing. So,ok, fair enough, we are going to have the greenest Olympic of the century perhaps, but how about flying to London? Will the means…

Faut-il croire au Développement Durable?/ Should we believe in Sustainable Development?

For all our French speaking friends, I would advise this book, in which the author shows some constructive criticism, a good book to learn more about our opportunities and difficulties !! I found it in a public library in the FWI so no excuse :) I don't know if there is an English translation.

To What Extent does The Netherlands Adapt to Global Climate Change?

Global climate change is ongoing, sea levels rise and lowland countries are threatened. Examples of such countries are Thailand, Singapore and The Netherlands. Having attended lectures regarding Thailand and Singapore already, I would like to point out mitigation and adaptation of The Netherlands against rising global sea levels.

The first problem that I want to highlight is that the Dutch soil is sinking by ten centimeters every century (Knip Karel, 2008). This means that sea level…

‘Discount on fruit is better than the so-called Fat-tax’

Tonie Mudde presents an article in the Dutch newspaper: de Volkskrant (Wednesday 20th of June).

Discount on fruit and vegetables stimulate healthy consumption more than a tax on unhealthy products does. Sustainability on University Campuses UCU and NUS

While I was in Singapore for four months, I resided on campus of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Here, some vital differences ánd similarities between the NUS-campus and my campus in The Netherlands, Utrecht (University College) became evident. In addition, there was a continuous discussion on whether universities should introduce compulsory literacy on sustainability. This is what I have reflected on the above mentioned issues.

Enhancing sustainability is done at global,…

The Hague: Environmental Problems and Solutions

The Hague, the governmental city of The Netherlands. Having read interesting news and research, I wrote this summary, which you will hopefully find useful!

The Hague has been growing during the past decades. The city is home to more than 500.00 people and facilitates network between work, home, beaches and other tourist attractions for many more (Den Haag Groeit, 2011).
